Best of 2016: Portraits

Happy 2017 everyone!  Before I start working towards my goals for this new year, I wanted to reflect on my 2016.  Making a blog post of my favorite moments from this past year was a perfect way to do so.  Moving from Madison to Grand Rapids has been a good challenge for my business, but the wonderful people of Michigan have welcomed me with open arms and I am so grateful to them.  Please enjoy Part 1 of my Best of 2016 posts, where you will find a lovely mix of engagement, anniversary, senior, and family portraits.

Beth + Scott - Kalamazoo Michigan Anniversary Photography

I met up with Beth and Scott for their 1-year anniversary photo shoot in Kalamazoo.  It was such a perfect time for photos, pretty toasty on an October day!  I think a lot of locals had the same idea, because when we arrived at the Asylum Lake Preserve, the lot was absolutely packed.  Leo, their puppy adopted from the Humane Society, greeted me with a sniff and a little bit of jumping.  I don't think he has ever heard a shutter on a DSLR camera because when I started snapping away, he tilted his head to figure out what was going on; I was ready with my camera to capture this adorableness of course :)

We made a last minute decision to stop by the Western Michigan University campus to find more color in the trees and we found a lovely walking path by the soccer field for some portraits of just Beth and Scott (Beth's brother was nice enough to watch Leo during this time).  The glow was so beautiful at this point!  Since Beth and Scott had taken pictures together in the past for their wedding, we got so many photos with great variety in such a short time.

To finish off the evening, we met up with Leo and Beth's brother again at the other end of Asylum Lake Preserve.  It was a pleasure taking pictures of this lovely little family.  With some hard work and patience while working with Leo, I am loving how these turned out!  Happy anniversary Beth and Scott!
